HINTS TRICKS TIPS
Computer Stuff
Folow these few steps to keep you computer Virus-and-Problem free!

1.Have an up to date firewall installed on yourcomputer!! It protects you from inbound unwanted internet connections. You set the allowable programs you want to access the interent. That way noone can sneak into your computer and access sensitive data without you knowing it.
I use a firewall program called Zone Alaram.
You can get it here--->http://www.download.com/ZoneAlarm-Firewall-Windows-2000-XP-/3000-10435_4-10039884.html

2.Have an up to date Virus program that runs in the backround while your system is running. This can catch viruses before they are downloaded to your hard drive by constantly keeping an eye out for them. Plus of you do catch a virus this will be able to remove it with no problem. I use Norton Antivirus for my Virus program, its worth the $39.99. Its saved me plenty of times from having to reinstall my Operating System.
You can get it here--->http://shop.symantecstore.com
-If you are looking for a good free antivirus go with AVG Antivirus
You can get that here------>http://free.avg.com/

3. If you run windows always keep your Windows up to date.
You can go here to do that------>http://update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate

4. Have a good Spyware Malware remover and run it every month to ensure your are spyware free. I use a free program called Adaware.
You can get it here----->http://lavasoft.com/single/trialpay.php

5. I’m sure some of you may have heard about cookies. Cookies are files that are put on your computer by any website that you go to. You can delete these cookies from your cache by going to the options menu in any internet browser. I found an even better program that can delete the stuff that is deep down inside your computer and free up some incredible amount of hard drive space. I had my computer running for 4 + years without ever deleting any cookies. When I ran this program I saved my self 10 gigs of space!! The program is called Cleanup, it’s a free program and they take donations!! I use the program with its default settings and it works great. There is other settings that can be turned on but unless you want to delete your saved passwords and what not I don’t recommend changing it from its default settings.

~DSL USERS~

Think your DSL is to slow or should be faster because of what the ISP says it should be. It might be there fault, it could be your own computer not tweaked enough. You can get the max upload and download by going to http://www.dslreports.com > In this site there are tools to check your speed and tools that tests your computer for tweaks. They can help you bring up your speed. GIVE IT A SHOT. Just enter the site and on the left hand side is an option called "our tools", click that and inside you will find all kinds of options to play around with. You need to have Java installed for this to work!!

~DEFRAG~

If you don't Defrag your computer once a month then your computer may be not running as good/fast as it can. When you save, delete, add programs, or move files around, your hard drive gets fragmented. So when you try to access files or run programs it seems like it takes forever to find these programs or files.  When you defrag your computer files and programs they are all lined up nice and neat for quick access. To do this defragment in Windows XP right click my computer, click manage, then on the list click on disk defragment then click defragment. If you have never defraged your computer this may take a while so turn it on before you go to bed and let it run all night. Also when you defrag, you shouldn't have any applications running.; You will notice a huge difference in speed when this defragmentation is done.
